Summer Skill Acquisition Scholarship.

Summer Skill Acquisition Scholarship.

At She Can Advocacy and Empowerment Initiative, we believe in empowering girls with necessary skills that they need to thrive in all areas of life. This summer, we organized a skill acquisition program, where we collaborated with Zinoms Bakery to sponsor four girls. The participants were given hands on training on the techniques of baking various pastries and Nigerian snacks, while teaching them how to convert this skill into a profitable business.

Event Details:

At She Can Advocacy and Empowerment Initiative, we believe in the power of education, empowerment, and opportunity, especially for young girls. For summer 2025, we were proud to put these values into action by hosting a Summer Skill Acquisition Program, focused on equipping girls with practical baking skills.

For this scholarship, we sponsored four girls from a Nigerian secondary school to understand the art of baking, measurement and how these skills can be converted into money. This means that while we were teaching them about baking as an art, we incorporated financial literacy to enable them understand how this skill can be converted into a profitable business.

This training is what we call a mix of fun and learning, as the girls had fun, while learning things like:

  • How to bake simple pastries and cakes from scratch.
  • How to measure ingredients confidently.
  • How to decorate with creativity.
  • Basic calculations to determine profit margin.
  • The art of negotiation with customers.
  • Understanding kitchen hygiene and safety.
  • Personal branding.

Not only did they create delicious treats, they also built confidence and discovered new passion to the point that they were already thinking of collectively starting a baking shop, to make some money to support their education and buy things such as sanitary items for themselves.

To us a non profit organization in Nigeria, this initiative was not just about baking, it is an avenue of investing in the next generation of empowered young women. By providing access to skill training, we are helping break down systemic barriers and opening doors to self-reliance, independence and leadership.

The joy and pride on the girls’ faces as they showcased their baked goods during the end of the scholarship was a reminder of what happens when we invest in the future of girls. These four girls did not just leave with certificates and new skills, they left with hope, and a sense of purpose.

At She Can Advocacy and Empowerment Initiative, we are committed to creating sustainable, life-changing opportunities for girls and women. This summer’s baking program is just one example of how skill acquisition can transform an individual.

We are proud of the girls who took part and deeply grateful to everyone who supported this program, especially Zinoms Bakery, who took time to teach these girls.
